Made in East Vancouver

From a back alley

My neighbourhood is quickly transforming. Hand-built facades and large garden plots of old are giving way to engineered minimalism and manicured yards. My family's home sits amongst this transforming community.

Turner Street is where my grandparents bought their first home in Canada in 1956 after having immigrated from Europe. It's where my father grew up and where I now work and live. For years, I've been engrossed in sifting through family artefacts to help piece together where I've come from. Along the way, I found evidence of sacrifice, hard work, unique forms, and simple ingenuities.

The objects, tools, seeds, and textures of the past have long inspired my designs. From an old garage in a changing neighbourhood, I repurpose old materials, brands, and ideas into sustainable products that are uniquely familiar.
